Here is an ode that I wrote years ago. I wrote it to Jesus, telling Him how much I cared for Him and that I couldn’t do with out Him. I no more than finished it and the Lord spoke to me to send it to my mother. I explained to Jesus that we in our family didn’t express words of affirmation and that I couldn’t do that. He said to me, “You would like to hear this from your children, wouldn’t you?” I didn’t need to be reminded again. Quickly, I sent it off to my mother for Mother’s Day.

The next time I saw Mom, I asked her if she got my Mother’s Day message. She didn’t fall all over herself or me with words that I wanted so badly to hear, but her expressive eyes told a story that I had always wanted to hear.

She passed away six years later, the last day of May. That was when the last verse was added.

An Ode to Mother

I Love You

Please know that I love you __
Please know that I deeply care
You cross my mind a million times
And helped me through times I couldn’t bear.

You’ve generously lent me your ear
You’ve given me your confidence too.
Without you my Granny dear,
I don’t know what I would do.

Please know with the absence of you
My days would be cloudy and gray.
You are my warm sunshine
You are my spring bouquet in May.

You are precious__You are sweet
Without you my life would be incomplete.
Oh the happy moments you have brought
To me Granny, You are just plain neat!

Please know that I love you
Please know that I care very much.
You are my treasured gift from God
That brightens every day with HIS TOUCH.

And now my spring bouquet has withered and died
Its petals have fallen __ my mind is in a maze.
My spring bouquet is leaving her perfume
To permeate its fragrance on cloudy gray days.

Tears I couldn’t hide when Jesus came calling,
Memories flooded my heart “did I do enough?”
And now from HEAVEN comes sunshine
On this last day of May.
